@Snicks1 Thanks! I've been putting both colored and white lights on a Christmas tree ever since I moved out of my parents home in the early 80's (that should give you a clue of how old I may be...)
I'm sure I am an oddball, but I always found just white lights boring and just colored lights didn't give off enough light on the trees no matter how many I put on...LOL
I put a pic of our Christmas tree last year on another thread, but here's a pic of it with all our lights off except for the decor and from another angle. I put 2 - 100 bulb clear 'random flicker' (every 5th bulb flickers) lights strings and 2- 100 bulb colored light strings on steady on our tree...
@Susan Louise How many lights would you think a three foot tree could hold well? I have one which is flocked, from probably ten years ago, but never used it.
@mousiegirl The 4' BL flocked tree (tree itself is 3' - urn 1') has the 100 clear lights already on it. I then added 100 colored lights. The info about the colored lights I bought is HERE in my OP...so 200 lights altogether for a 3' tree
@Susan Louise I have two strings of the colored in my amazon cart for $12+ and free shipping, so thank you for the info about the amount, thought it might be two strings. I want to be able to do it myself as DH moans and groans about the eight foot green tree, lol.
@mousiegirl Forgive me, but I am confused
So you are about to order 2 strings of the colored...how many bulbs per string?...if 100 each?...then you are just doing colored lights...right?
Does your 3' flocked tree already have lights on it - prelit? Is it the BL tree?
@Susan Louise The tree has no lights on it, think I bought it at Target eons ago, just never used it. I am buying Vickerman three 100 bulbs multi, white included, random twinkle strings.

@mousiegirl Bare with me, ok...just want to reiterate a couple of things to help clarify for you too ![]()
Ok...thanks for the clarification...whew! Well, if you want it to look like my BL flocked tree, there are only 100 clear/white lights...those are the ones that came with the tree. I only added one set of the 100 colored random flicker bulbs (yes, bought a spare set..but didn't put on the tree).
So on the 3' tree is only 200 lights total.
I think you will have difficulty trying to put 300 bulbs on a 3' tree (2 - 100 colored and 1 - 100 clear) because of the wiring. There is no way I could add another set without the tree looking odd.
Hope that clarification helps! I think if you put 100 colored and 100 random flicker white on your tree it will look AWESOME!!! ![]()

@Susan Louise I bought the third string for a green woodsy skinny tree I have, have three of these and change the lights, one usually has red, the other mini multi.
The white on these strings will be enough, as usually I wouldn't think of white mixed in with colored lights, either or, but thought I would try these. If I don't like them, back they go. ![]()

@mousiegirl Yes, the set also has 6 clear/white lights per set...that is all. The random flicker on this particular vickerman set are the colored lights. What impressed me the most with the set is the 6 colors...usually colored light sets have only 4 or 5 different colors. I did not try to switch put the bulbs to see if I put a clear white bulb where a flicker red bulb is to see if the clear/white one would flicker. To me, having a scattered few bulbs flickering looks lovely, whether they are white or colored.
On our 6' tree the white lights have the flicker...on the BL tree it's the colored ![]()

@Susan Louise, just beautiful!! I have had that flocked tree for a couple 3 yrs or so & got it to display my Hallmark Frost Light Fairy collection. It is my "woman-cave" tree. Loving the new twist with adding the color lights! May have to retire those Frost Light Fairies for something different this year, thanks for the idea!

@BornToShop Well...LOL...it was new for me in the early 80's as I mentioned in an earlier post. I have been putting both white and colored lights on Christmas trees for close to 35 yrs. I'm glad you like it ![]()
For me, it takes the boring out of just white lights and adds the BAM! (good ole Emeril...LOL) to colored lights ![]()
I keep waiting for a company to finally come out with a prelit tree with both colored and white lights lit at the same time...HA! I should have patented the idea! And then they would still have to add the random flicker bulbs!
QVC hosts always show one of those prelit trees when you click on the colored, then the clear depending on one's whim...why not both at the same time...SMH...LOL

@Susan Louise I had never heard of random flicker until I read your first post the other night, and I like the idea also. I don't like tons of lights twinkling all at once, I would go batty, lol.
Regarding white lights alone, I have to say that the white nine foot flocked tree I bought a few years ago here with only white lights, is mesmerizing, and with all of the red picks. birds, ornaments, and some white, it is gorgeous! I never thought I would like a tree with white lights, but this tree is the exception.
All other trees in the house have either multi, two colors, or a single color, not white.
