It is not a handbag, but a shopping bag. It does have a closed pouch inside for valuables. It has good reviews.

Mine don't have leather handles ... but the idea is the same ....

 

I crocheted several mesh bags to use at the green market.

While I didn't live overseas the visual that came to mind was a woman in a small open air market with her string bag filled with vegetables, bread, wine, cheese and a bouquet of flowers!
