Re: The joys of a wicker handbag!

@1Professor  Now this is what I can a wicker handbag (Lucena in your original post).  When I was little I remember my middle sister had a structured wicker bag and I never thought I'd see one like it again in my lifetime, lol.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Re: The joys of a wicker handbag!

I grew up in South Alabama where wicker purses, we called them purses, was a rite of spring. The 1960's one you pictured was how I remember them. Even little girls had them. For Easter you wore a hat, wore gloves (I had some sheer ones), carried your purse and Bible and wore ruffled ankle socks and black or white patent mary jane shoes from Buster Brown.

I've been contemplating some sort of natural fiber or material bag. I love the look of so many of the rafia, straw, etc. bags... And, of course, some of them bring to mind Sophia Petrillo...

@1Professor I am not as much into wicker as to straw and crochet bags.  Loving the one over at Brighton..been into the store 3 times to admire it.

@hicindy2 Wow, I like all of them! The first one, the Brighton, reminds me of a bee with a honeycomb. It's sold out online. Good for me...I like it a lot!

@1Professor Well I was born in 58 so must be why I don't really remember them.

About 10 years ago.  They were in all the major department stores that I went into.

Re: The joys of a wicker handbag!

I had one lots of years ago ... no problem until I used it while wearing a knit top.

Never again.  No matter how careful I was, the wicker splintered and snagged my clothes.

Did Sophia on the Golden Girls ever carry anything but that wicker purse? That's all I ever saw.

@AuntG It was the only bag she ever carried as far as I recall. It was more or less her trademark.
