Regarding outlets vs. retail

I recently went to a Dooney and Bourke outlet for a Hobo Logo Lock handbag. I swear it was not real leather. I asked the sale person if it was and she said yes, pebble leather. I asked where it said leather on the bag and she said they don't. I've googled and can't seem to find an answer, it talks about Coach making bags just for outlets. Does anyone know? I'm so frustrated, I'm not paying for fake leather at that price. It was for $169.00

Re: Regarding outlets vs. retail

You can google this: many brands and stores manufacture merchandise for the sole purpose of selling it in their outlet stores.  While some of this merchandise is decent quality, often lower grade textiles-- such as non leather in handbags known for their fine leather-- are used.  It has been my experience that not a lot of what you see in outlet stores has spent a day on the racks of  the regular price stores.  There are exceptions, but mine is an opinion which has been validated in independent research by professional marketing companies.  This does not pertain to discount stores such as Marshalls, TJ maxx, etc. because they source their inventory differently than brands and stores, such as Dooney and Nordstrom, stock their outlet stores.

It's not a secret, but it's also not something the retailers allow their salespeople to speak of in the outlet stores.  If a customer knows so be it; but if you don't know and ask questions about something, the response will be a babble of confusing words.

I've shopped at D & B outlet in Las Vegas (I live nearby) and they are the real deal.   I'm sure it was leather.  I've gotten some fantastic deals there and as well online Ilovedooney.  The Coach store is larger and always busy.  I think Coach makes different bags for their outlet unlike D & B.

Re: Regarding outlets vs. retail

What I have heard is that Dooney is Dooney...the same everywhere.  They don't make anything different for the outlets.  I have gotten a flourentine bagat the outlet.  And it is the same quality as the flourentine that I have purchased at QVC and other retailers.

Coach, on the other hand does make "special" items (from what I have heard) for their outlet stores.  And I have noticed the LACK of quality there.

AFAIK Dooney does not make bags just for the outlets. I've been to the Dooney outlets and all the bags I saw were ones I'd seen in retail stores on their website.

NO. Dooney makes a range of bags in a range of prices but they do not make a lower line for Outlets. Coach does that, and the outlet bags are not good. Dooney does not do that. Maybe you were looking at saffiano? To me, saffiano leather, which is embossed and coated, skyways feels and looks plastic. I agree that the low $169 price sounds too good to be true, but if it is an outlet, then I suppose that is right.

Well it has been a long time since I have actually watched, but doesn't Dooney and Bourke produce handbags "exclusive" to QVC?

When I heard that, I immediately knew it was not something I would choose to purchase.

I've learned in the past "exclusive" to QVC means lower grade products. Just won't waste my money.

I disagree, That Coach  outlet bags, are always lower quality.

Some outlet bags, are not the best quality, but they also have some really lovely bags that are made specifically for their outlets.

Customers who are familiar with the line, and know what they're looking for and understand price points, can score some great values!
