@Tag2020 I've wondered this for a while also.
...so seeing this post I decided to Google:
The idea stems from old gadgets like televisions, when much of the data was stored magnetically, using tiny bits of iron. However, with all the latest technological advancements, the truth is magnets won't interfere with your smartphone.Aug 30, 2018
Hopefully, a reliable source. At any rate, if you ask the question, it brings up a ton of articles explaining...and from the headlines and scanning a few, it seems it won't damage phones...but I didn't read all the details.

Just curious… Do you still need to be concerned with magnetic closures on handbags? I just bought a bag with a pretty strong magnetic, and didn’t know if concern with phones and credit cards was still an issue.
Thanks.
@Tag2020 If my bag also has a zipper compartment, I tend to put valuables in there. I feel more secure.
