I am not a fan of heavy bags either.  I would suggest checking TJMaxx or Marshalls for Bagallini or Kipling.  These brands are sold elsewhere,  however, you will pay much more.  Both of these brands wear well.  

 

Also, love Longchomp, MZWallace and Tumi.  More expensive, however, they last quite a while.

 

I pretty much only buy a crossbody at this point.  The only small part of my body is my shoulders, bags do not stay on my shoulder.

Regarding Kipling and Baggallini sold in Marshalls and TJM.  Sometimes it can be hard to find a color you want in these stores (for me it's usually black.)  If you have a specific color you absolutely want, you may be better off looking elsewhere.

Got a great  bag at Goodwill. It is denim and very light. I pretty much make all my bags w/belts cross body.

Michael Kors nylon bags. They can often be found on sale.
