I love them, too.  I don't buy as many these days.  They are too heavy for me.

what works for me to lighten them up is, don't overload them. Also I only put small lightweight items in them for example a 4x5 vera Bradley cloth wallet,a lightweight small lug pouch for lip balms.

@smoochy Same here. Two of my Dooneys weigh a pound empty, and the others are 13-14 ounces. I am mindful to choose everyday essential items that add as little weight as possible. I stash my small things in the slip and zip pockets and don't add cases and pouches except for a cotton Vera Bradley deluxe zip ID, which I use as a wallet.
