Crossbody or, my larger bags, over the shoulder.  I would not purchase a bag that I could not wear over my shoulder.

All of my handbags are crossbody.  I would never put mine in a grocery cart. I see this a lot, and then they walk off, and many times the bag is not even closed.

I like a shoulder bag and always carry it in my LEFT shoulder.  I was in the military where you must have your right arm free to salute. Got in the habit and that's what I've always done.

It depends on the bag I am carrying.  Most of my bags are shoulder bags and I carry a shoulder bag on my left shoulder.  Otherwise I carry crossbody.

I always carry crossbody bags. Hands are free. Brahmin is my favorite brand. A couple of mine are many years old and still look like new. 

I don't buy bags that are open at the top. A zipper is a must.

I shake my head when they leave their bags in a grocery cart, on a chair, or other place and then step away. They're lucky they aren't stolen.

For garage sales I have a small handbag that I carry crossbody. The only thing in it is a few dollar bills and some change.

I have seen women have so many issues w/a regular bag that I decided to do the above.

Always lock the car.  If a bag I purchase is not cross body it is easy to make it so.
