Those round bags are right up my alley. Thanks for bringing them up! I really like the red and the brighter green. So CUTE!

Re: Have you bought anything from Portland Leather?

last night I ordered a medium zippered tote in nutmeg. The leather looks beautiful in the pics  Can't wait to get it and see how it is. Will be so different from my structured bags. I hope I like it

I'm an enabler. It's a gift. Haha. I LOVE my new tote. That supple, unstructured leather is so lovely. Now I want more.

I've lived all my life in Portland, just a mile from their store...why haven't I heard of them before (I'm 74!)?  I love the look.of their leather!

Re: Have you bought anything from Portland Leather?

I have many Portland Leather goods.  The pebbled leathers are soft and are pretty, the smooth leathers, especially the colored ones, are pretty, but I'm not the biggest fan of them.  I don't really care for their brushed, it feels kind of fake?

However, my first bag was the Lg circle, and I now have 3 in various colors.  The pebbled ones do sink in and loose their shape (yes the embroidery hoop 9" works) but I like the smooth leathers for this style.

I have lots of littles from them, mostly to see the colors, because the colors on the site are taken under lights, and since my bags and I spend most of the time indoors, my bag colors are much darker.

Beware, however of the smooth black.  No amount of wiping the excess dye will keep it from rubbing off on your clothing and ruining anything lighter.

All in all, they are priced decently, have some great sales, and they have a points system where the points you accumulate through sales can be used the money off of future purchases.  I've bought enough to gain top status, so any purchase I make earnes 1.75 points on the dollar spent.  1000 points will give you $50 off on another purchase.

At least they are an honest company, ship within a week of order, and if they are out of stock when you order, they return your funds, plus give you free shipping on your next order.  Their insider Facebook private group is kind of a cult and full of people posing with their handbags, putting differents straps or purse charms on, taking pictures.

I have purchased from them, but sold them.  I don't like the games they play with trying to get a unicorn color.  You have to order the mystery bag and you don't know what color you are getting.  There are colors I really like but doesn't come in the style bag I like.  I am on the FB group and sometimes look to see if someone is selling the color and style I want.

Yes, I have 6 of their zipped mini totes.  I'm not a fan of bags with lots of pockets and specific places to put things  so the open interior space of my minis suits me fine.  I have a few zip pouches that hold my things and I just switch them from bag to bag, easy peasy.

I have 6 different colors and none of them have brushed off onto anything else.  The mini totes have handles and a shoulder strap that can be removed.  I like to wear them crossbody or on my shoulder so that my hands are free.  Amazon has tons of guitar strap style replacement straps that are fun to mix and match with the bags, too.

@shoesnbags @smoochy  -  I've been a Dooney gal for years.  I mainly carry a tote.  I'm looking at purchasing a Portland tote.

I'm hoping they're not as heavy as Dooney bags.  I'm looking for a leather purse that is not as heavy as Dooney.

Portland is having 25% off.  If I sign up for email, do you know if I'll get an additional 25% after the sale 25% off?

Any suggestions on these purses?

I was thinking about joining the Portland Resale Group on Facebook and maybe purchasing a pre-owned one instead.  I don't know.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

@San Antonio Gal

I've been buying Dooney since the 80s so have definitely had a lot of them. Portland Leather Goods is more recent but I kind of made up for lost time since discovering them ha ha!

The last few years I've started to be more aware of the weight of all of these brands, but mostly I just switched to smaller bags in general. That's where my obsession with PLG mini totes started.

But I do have one larger PLG tote and I tried to compare it to a similar sized Dooney. I don't think the Portland tote is particularly lighter. It's made of a very thick sturdy leather which has some weight to it. I almost never use it and would re-sell it in the Facebook group if I belonged to Facebook.

HOWEVER the mini totes are light and so easy to carry, either over the arm as I did for church today, or crossbody with a cute guitar strap I purchased on Amazon. And they actually fit a lot more than you would think.

So I think it's a matter of which style you choose and the size.
