Has anyone returned a Dooney bag back to D&B?

I ordered the Libby bag from D&B during their online 30% off sale before Christmas. I felt confident it was the bag for me after watching the QVC presentation numerous times of that same bag. But - when it arrived last Friday, it was much bigger and heavier than what I thought it would be. I hate to return items but I knew it just wouldn't work. I found the "form" that was included in the box that included pertinent information for a return, and also went to the D&B website to look at their return instructions. There was no pre-printed return sticker included in the box. After re-packaging the bag, I made a return label and took the box today to a nearby UPS location (their suggestion was UPS or USPS). Here's my question/quandry....I assumed there would be a nominal shipping fee, but that wasn't the case. I ended up paying over $20 to return that bag and didn't think I had much choice other than to do that. I thought I would be responsible for $7.50 to return it, but obviously I was wrong. I decided to pay the $20+ since that would be better than keeping a $200+ bag that I knew I wouldn't be able to use. Does anyone have experience returning a bag back to D&B? I'm not sure where I went wrong with this transaction, but it sure did sour me on ever ordering another bag directly from D&B.

I've never had a problem returning anything to dooney or I love Dooney. There are instructions on the website. You print out the label from the website and they charge $7.50 for the return. It's cheaper than paying for the return yourself. Too bad you didn't call them first or find the correct label on the website. Also it gives you automatic tracking so you're sure that you will get credit for your return.

Yup, there's always a trap.  You got 30% off the normal price - so perhaps paying extra shipping to return the handbag is a 'wash'.  You'll get rid of a bag you'll never use - get it out of the house - and received $100++++ back.

I've had those same decisions to make; and, decided as you did.  In time you'll forget the shipping charge.

I always paid for my returns to Dooney, however I chose to send them.  If they had a return label somewhere I sure never knew about it.  But I always got a fulll refund for the items, so I was only out my return shipping costs.

I wouldn’t hesitate to order from their site or call in an order again since I never had any problems with them.  I just don’t buy new bags much any more and especially not heavy leather like many Dooneys are.

Re: Has anyone returned a Dooney bag back to D&B?

So there is a return label that needs to be printed. I guess I'm a doofus because I just didn't see that. Maybe it's just me, but I would have liked instructions that was really specific, i.e., "print the return form"....Lol. Oh well, thanks for the clarification.

And thanks to everyone else who responded. This is the first time I've ever returned a D&B bag to them. I guess I just didn't understand their instructions. I've learned my lesson to always visit my local Dillard's or Macy's first to check out a bag before I order online to save a few bucks!

I have purchased many D&B handbags, a couple from QVC, but for the most part I order from ilovedooney.com. Virtually all of the bags are at discounted prices and the best part...free shipping on all returns!!!

Re: Has anyone returned a Dooney bag back to D&B?

I read and re-read their instructions.....but the statement that I should "use our return form to create your shipping label and packing slip" was not clear to me. No, I'm not stupid - I'm a college educated 65+ female. D&B included a "return form and packing slip" in the shipping box I received....why didn't they just state that I should go to their website and print a return label. Since I didn't follow their instructions explicitly, including a new packing slip, I hope they will accept my return. The box is on its way back to Connecticut - we'll see what they do. I've ordered Dooney bags from both Dooney.com and ILoveDooney.com - never returned anything until today.

After reading this I went to the Dooney site and found it.  It also has a “Start Your Return Here” button to click.  Is this where you get the return label?

This feature was was not available when I ordered or returned my Dooneys, which has been a while now.
