This morning (Saturday) they had a great sale on the Dooney hobo logo lock, with multiple colors now being discontinued. I have many of these bags, adore them, but they had a lavender I wanted. By the time I got my computer open, it was gone. I signed up for Wait List.

Curious. I reasonably assumed that when some customer put too many colors in their shopping bag to hold for an hour, if a lavender one was released, the next person in the Wait List line would get it.

Apparently not.

Hours after the showing, I checked and two colors were back after the SELL OUT (yellow and gray). Another hour later, I checked and LAVENDER was there. Quickly ordered it.

What about being in line for Wait List?? That was apparently never going to happen.

**Warning for folks depending on being on Wait List for a treasured bag: keep checking.

@1Professor

Not sure I understand.

Maybe you WERE the next on the waitlist for the lavender?

@LTT1:

My Wait List order still showed "waiting" in my Orders.

However, the lavender bag was now available on the item site for anyone to grab. It should not have shown up on the item site, since one or more of us were waiting for it.

I grabbed it. But my Wait List was still sitting there and I suspect others were waiting for lavender, as well.

Somehow, the Q technology allows someone to release a bag and then it immediately jumps to available on the item site RATHER THAN GOING TO SOMEONE ON WAIT LIST.

A tech glitch, but good to know.

@1Professor

Yes....thank you for letting me know.

I had a waitlist item Thursday (so I had paid for it). Thought I’d have to wait for a return, and it went into the site right away and that is where I grabbed it.

Hmmm

@1Professor I'm no longer sure how their order fulfillment system, (assuming there is a system), works and frankly, I'm not sure they are either...

Was there a dooney show on this morning? I saw these bags a couple of days ago and ordered (and received) the Taupe. I was fully expecting a used bag but no, it was brand new.

I'm sorry you missed out. I would keep checking back though.

@suburbanone: I didn't miss out, as my first message explained.

I kept checking and found it, because it popped back.

My point was that the Wait List wasn't working; I would not have received it that way.

@stevieb: Hi, handbag sister!

Yes, I don't think they know, either. Interestingly, on the Q one can put a bevy of items in your cart and the Q will hold them all for an hour (sometimes more).

HSN does not allow this. Putting an item (or more) in your cart can mean it disappears in minutes, if someone else wants it.

Wondering which policy generates more actual sales?

I'm happy you have your bag and you did what I always do and always have done.  Remember that when they say something has sold out on tv, that does not mean it has sold out.  That just means that there aren't enough for the millions of tv shoppers, they don't want people calling in when they only have handful of something.  If you go online the "sold out" item is often available.  Another scenario is that when shoppers cancel something immediately that they order, the item is then available for someone else.  I believe waitlist is only applicable when items are returned or when they get a new order in.  Waistlist isn't a a "real time" thing.

@chrystaltree: Great specific advice!
