I am a huge D & B fan.  I have several handbags that I love.  I have been purchasing these bags for decades.  I still have several that were made in

the USA.

I have noticed a decline in the details of the bags.  They remind me now of

rectangles, yes offered in many colors, but somehow much cheaper in appearance.

I miss the Florentine bags: specifically the Clayton and the Smith bags in the different sizes.

I feel that these have been replaced with Saffiano, and in no way is Saffiano even close in quality.

I would like to hear from others.  I really miss those bags, and I think maybe they are gone forever.

Another pet peeve:  the rubber "feet".  I don't care how it is spin (doesn't scratch, etc...), I feel it is cheap.

I know the prices are still higher than an average bag, but for quality, I don't mind paying.

Re: Dooney and Bourke quality

They must be pretty sturdy.  I've never heard anyone say they wore one out.

Three deal breakers for me - rubber feet, carry straps that are permanent and cannot be taken off, and carry handles that do not fold down. (pretty much all that yesterday's TSV had).

I miss the Florentine bags too. They have really cut back on that line, even on the Dooney website.

Re: Dooney and Bourke quality

I have quite a few Florentine leather ones I bought during the 12 days of dooney a few years back. CHEAP!!!  Last year I hardly saw any so think they already reduced their inventory.

Im not a fan of coated leather like the saffiano. Kors uses it also and it's very popular. Saves me money!

Another thing that bugs me is the nylon key keeper strap. So cheap.  Why can't they keep the leather? They move the manufacturing to China and still cut corners!

Re: Dooney and Bourke quality

Overall, the quality is still great when you look at the competition, but nothing like the early bags that made them famous. I paid $240 for my first Dooney around 1980, and I still have it. The leather was thicker, with no lining needed back in the day. Dooney makes great bags even now, but I think Dooney is succumbing to qvc price point pressure, so they are finding ways to reduce their costs to hit a lower price. Big mistake. I will always pay more for the good stuff, which is why I have hoarded Dooney florentine bags and paid full retail for them.  Saffiano? Terrible and plastic-y, whether it is dooney's or a pricier designer who uses Saffiano. I am still a Dooney girl, because no one does it better, style wise. I check the Dooney website for bags QVC isn't showing and just purchased one today, which is a larger and pricier version of something QVC has. But where is florentine??? More please!

Re: Dooney and Bourke quality

Oh! In my other post, I agreed with you and mentioned that I want to see more florentine bags, too, but I for got to mention that I wa t to see more in the other outstanding leather, the German calfskin SAMBA leather which is superb. Why did they limit that line? It was among the best of the best. Duh....

Re: Dooney and Bourke quality

I have been buying Dooney bags for more years than I can count, but prior to Dooney I was a diehard Coach leather bag buyer since the mid eighties.  I recently started carrying my Coach bucket bag that has to be almost 30 years old now but still looks exceptionally good except for the slight wear at the bottom and I use to carry it almost everyday,  but I noticed some of the Dooney's I have purchased within the last maybe 5-8 years like that croco tote look more worn than my Coach.  I love my Dooney bags but I won't be buying them anymore I don't think the quality is there anymore.
