It doesn't matter how cute or pretty a bag is, if it doesn't have the majority of the features I need and want, then its a no go.  I used to never consider: weight of the bag, style of the handles, shape of the bag, whether there were outside pockets.  Now, these are essentials for me.  I might go shopping and admire all the variety of bags but these days, I know right off the bat if a purse is right or wrong for me.

Both for me.  If it has one or the other, I will wait until I find something with both.  Weight is last, but still important.

I am attracted to looks first, then I check out the inside, if that does not meet my requirements then it is a no go for me.

Function.  I usually use a tote bag as I like to carry a lot with me.  My Mom was the same way.

Function has to be what I want and that means a cell phone interior pocket, an outside zip pocket, a big enough interior to fit my stuff, and made out of quality leather. The handbag strap has to be quality most of all.

I own a lot of handbags already and so I can be picky.

Looks.  If it doesn't make me happy, I don't even consider buying it.

It has to have both. And maybe I i can't imagine carrying an ugly bag. But it has to stand up to every day use. I don't do cheap bags from Kmart. Even a wallet on a string has to look good. It has to be big enough to carry my smartphone. I will never carry that in a pocket. And since I live. In New York, I will never walk.around with a wallet in my my hand or pocket. The bag has to be secure. But ugly, no way.
