It is just 7 yrs .old, today some of the limbs are leaning, and when i pulled at them, they just fell to the ground, i guess it is dying, only 3 limbs are upright.

Sorry to hear that.  I had a similar problem with a lilac.  Mine didn't make it either.   We live in SE VA and the climate isn't ideal for lilacs.  We pined for one however as we grew up near Rochester, NY, considered the Lilac Capital of the World!

That's a shame. I wonder are you in a drought? Was it very big?  They can get huge. My DS was massive it cost her a fortune to remove it.

I love lilac bushes!   I bought a dwarf lilac bush this past spring and so far so good.  I was surprised that it bloomed all summer long. I’m used to the larger bushes that bloom in the spring only.

I have 3 types of lilacs from my MIL--the light purple, the dark purple and the white. Years ago, I pulled up the suckers from her trees, stuck them in a bucket of water for months then planted them at the corner of my house---Well they grew into a fairlygood sized bush but with few flowers. A couple years ago--2018--had a huge snow in feb--I live near Seattle---and it piled up on that bush, breaking it down to the ground so the roots were exposed--had that snow all month so when I could, I chopped the thing to the ground---and now it is growing again but needs pruning. Will not die, those lilacs-----but the stems are pretty droopy with huge leaves on them---not sure how or when to prune. they also have brown spots on them too--

I have some Chinese Lilacs that are more bush-like than traditional.  They don't get over 3-4 ft tall and are bushy.  One of the few shopping channel plant purchases that went well.  I believe it was Cottage Farms.

@itsmagic , you may have a Bloomerang lilac which blooms once and them reblooms again.  I have a couple.  So pretty!

@wagirl  You should prune immediately after blooms fade.  Otherwise you risk cutting off next year's blooms.  LM

I don't know...in my experience, lilacs are eternal. It's really hard to get rid of them, especially if you WANT to.

Try cutting them down to the ground. There's a good chance that will get rid of all the bad stuff and when the suckers come up, you'll have nice, healthy lilacs.

Please let us know how this turns out.
