Re: have you ever planted a tree

Quite a few....and they are now WAY over the roof of the house (and it's a peaked roof).

They ARE expensive to maintain.   You would need an arborist to keep them in shape.

(And plenty of WATER if you live in a dry area.)

Yes, we built our house on an empty lot.  It used to be part of a farmer's field.

I planted many trees.  They all grew with no issues.  About 20 years later, we needed to have some of them removed.  Some got too big and evasive.

Over the years, I planted white pines, blue spruce, maple, ornamental plum, cherry trees...sweet and sour, bradford pear and dogwood.

My favorite, not sure if they are trees or shrubs....Nellie Steven Holly got so large, they were taller than my two story home that I had to remove three out of four of them.  They were planted too close to my house.

I'd love to plant more, but it is expensive to remove trees when they get too big, get hit by lightening, get invaded by insects or you just get tired of them.

Do your research before you plant.

Her, in our current home I've removed two trees and replaced them both. They're doing great. We have them on our drip irrigation system.

I chose trees that are native to our climate and not too large for our lot.

When they need trimming, I hire a certified arborist.

Re: have you ever planted a tree

I grew up with a Catalpa tree in the front yard, it came from the tree in my Grandmas yard. So when we got this house I planted one from my parents house in my yard. With the seed pods you usually have about 10 that you have to pull up every year.

I planted mine in 2019 and it just as tall as my house which is a multi level with a peaked roof.

Re: have you ever planted a tree

We planted many through the years.
'Cherry, apricot, peach, nectarine, apple, plums and many more.

You need to look at the spread of their branches, that will be the spread of their roots which can damage your home by being too invasive and also destroy your irrigation.

We've had many rescue dogs through the years. One a few years ago became deathly ill. On the third day after our vet called (he had our senior dog in his surgery for two days) he told us to come quickly, he was doing emergency surgery on our girl.
'She had eaten a peach including the pit. Her intestines were blocked. She recovered but it was rough on her.

We immediately dug up all the fruit trees, not an easy task. There's so many considerations when deciding on a tree to plant.

Trees are pretty and serve a purpose, but, not all are appropriate for your landscaping.

Re: have you ever planted a tree

We planted many trees over the years, 8 of them when we first bought the house 30+ years ago and about a dozen just last year, and a few inbetween those timeframes. The first ones we put in are weeping willows and they are HUGE.  I'm concerned about the ones we put in last year I hope they made it thru this rough winter because they were pricey, most of them were 8-10 feet tall.
