Re: annoying flying bugs....

@In-x-s ...Oh my, now that would be really annoying!  I have seen winged ants but not to the degree that you have them.

I swear by the Dyna Traps. We are surrounded by woods and I'm allergic to bites. The Dyna Traps work the best for our needs.

Try also a floor moving fan to keep the air moving. Many bugs dislike that.

@Mom2Dogs

The first one I got took 2 AA batteries.  The second one took 2 C or D batteries....more powerful esp. on larger insects like the spotted lantern fly, the newer invasive pest we are advised to terminate !

Re: annoying flying bugs....

@jlkz  Where are you located? Extension Agencies want to know if it is in your area.

Spotted lanternfly was transported to LI, NY from PA on nursery materials (plants). We had to get up to speed very fast & if we see any of these new pests, we are supposed to report it.

@JustJazzmom

Thank you for the pictures showing nymph stage and egg masses.

Newspapers and TV reports have been ongoing for the summer.  Delaware Valley College / University are trying various tree taping projects to trap the flies.

They are very aggressive and jump on folks as the pass through landscaped areas in mall parking lots. And,  they are very quick when you attempt to step on them !

Thank you China for another insect !

Thank you! I didn’t know they jump on people! Washington Post has a recent article on them as they are in the mid Atlantic region too.

Just want to mention egg masses are not just confined to trees; they can be on certain types of masonry. I found an egg mass (mystery as to what insect it was) last year on our stone fascade on our front porch. I scraped it off.
