I put mine out Saturday. I read that hummingbirds are now as far north as Southern Wisconsin. I'm in the northern burbs of Chiago. No sightings yet, but I want to be ready. Only put out a little of their sugar water, but will refil during the week. What ratio does every one use in their feeders. Do you make it yourself or purchase?
Can't wait!!!!!

I use 4:1, water to sugar. I've read you can make it more concentrated, e.g. 3:1, and hummers will love it, but you'll see them less often (because they'll get more energy with each stop at the feeder).

I am just west of Minneapolis MN and I usually place mine by May 1st. I did put one out[ today because the map we use showed we had sightings near me. I have three as a general rule, this one will be for the migration heading to northern MN.
I also await the orioles and catbirds! They love the grape jelly I put out.
So far everything in the garden seems about 2 weeks ahead of normal, including the birds!

Hmmm....Looks like this is the week they should be around in my area. Better get moving!
