@FlatbushLook for the German bred or Kordes roses in among your local nurseries. These are quite disease resistant. I labeled the ones pictured because many of them are the Kordes roses. If you want fragrance too, look for the Parfuma series among those roses.

Thank you for the info. I havn't heard of these roses.

@FlatbushUS Website: https://www.kordes.us/

This company sells own root roses: https://www.heirloomroses.com/roses/kordes-roses.html

Jackson & Perkins sells a few but check if its grafted or on own root. https://www.jacksonandperkins.com/kordes-roses/c/JP-Kordes-Roses/

Another own root rose company that sells Kordes roses:

https://www.northlandrosarium.com/collections/kordes-roses

One superior designation is the awarding to the rose of the ADR award in Europe. If you see this designation next to a rose you are interested in; it is superior for disease resistance (no spray).

Re: What's In Bloom This Weekend.

@JustJazzmom   I am posting a rose from my rose thread because when I saw your rose Easter Basket, it looks so  much like my rose that I think maybe what I have is Easter Basket.  My rose has more pink than the picture show, like yours.

This is a rose bush that I bought over twenty years ago at a garden center, and have no clue as to the name.  We planted it in a particular spot, heavy clay, what was I thinking. This spring, I had DH dig it up as it looked near death, just two sticks, canes, miserable looking.  I put it in a large pot, and within a month, it exploded in leaves and blooms, tons of pent up energy.  I have no clue as to how big it can get, so in a pot it remains until I have a better idea, but it is raring to get out of the pot and into a larger area.

@mousiegirl Easter Basket is a relatively new rose (2006/2007) in US but it’s parents are seed: Carefree Beauty & pollen: Strawberry Ice X Goldmarie82.

It’s pink with yellow & yellow with pink edges. The flower changes as it matures.

It’s tough to ID roses. A few good ID people are over at the a Houzz Roses forum. Perhaps if you post your photo, mention how long it’s been there, someone might know what it is.

Re: What's In Bloom This Weekend.

@JustJazzmom , sooooo pretty!  Rose's are my favorite.

I have several,  but mine really struggle once heat and humidity kick in here in Florida.   I especially admire the many blooms you get on each bush.  Is there anything you do to encourage more blooms?

I only get 2-3 blooms at a time...I ve added bonemeal too, but doesn't seem to encourage more flowering.   I believe Rose's are a cooler climate flower.  Mine do better early spring here, around February....then, not so good.

I would have ripped them all out due to all the maintenance and poor performance,  but I still cherish the few I get.  Enjoy your beautiful garden...please pass along your tips🙂

@Dazlin  I feed mine monthly during their bloom season with Espoma Rose Tone. I’ve used a half cup per rose bush depending on its size. I also add a half cup twice a year of Epsom salts around each rose too as they take a lot of magnesium out of the soil.

I generally wait till the roses leaf out (by me that’s late April) before adding the Epsom salts & apply that 2nd application in mid summer. By me, that is July.

I also deadhead the spent roses so they don’t waste their time forming hips or seeds. That keeps the blooms coming. I also don’t spray my roses with fungicides or insecticides. I’ve chosen pretty much disease resistant roses. If I do see any disease, it’s usually by late August by me.

I have found that many of the Austin roses get disease here on LI, so I have mostly removed all of them out of my rose garden except for the orange ‘Pat Austin’. Looking for an excellent disease resistant orange rose to eventually replace it. Haven’t found it yet. I would want a Kordes rose with their coveted ADR award as a choice for my garden. Fragrance is also a preference too.

@JustJazzmom ....I'll surely try the Epsoma Rose Tone.  I've been using Bayer granules.   Thank you!
