I planted a packet of morning glories back in March at the chain length fence. One came up, but quickly died. It was an old pack I found while cleaning and just wanted to see if it would grow. But what puzzled me and my neighbor on the other side of the fence was what came up right where I planted the glory seeds.
Any clue was this is? It's climbing the fence like a glory, has no flowers, and I know it's not a glory. I thought originally it may have been citronella, since I had some last year. But then it started vining. I tried an image search on Google, but nothing came close to this.

Lucky you, it looks like Cardinal Climber. It's a vine with red flowers that hummingbirds love. I think it's an annual. Maybe some seeds were mixed in with the morning glory.

You are lucky...for sure a Cardinal Climber and the hummingbirds will love it!

Oh wow. I never knew the name of this. It grows wild here, especially on roadsides. I've never looked at the leaves in passing, just a blip of the bright red flowers as you ride past. I'll be sure to buy them next spring. These didn't fair well, I think they were cooked since the sun blasts that area in summer. The wide ones here are in shade.
Thanks!
