WHAT LOOKS GREAT IN SHADE OR SUN ????

My hairdresser yesterday thanked me for the Solomon’s Seal plants that I gave her last year.  She has them around a large tree.  They take care of themselves and spread.  Plant rhizome stays close to top of soil.

They have a little white flower under the arc of their blades; flowers are small and don’t last long....you could easily miss them.  What’s great:  love shade or sun, will look great and green until frost hits them.  Gather up dried stalks at winter or in Spring.

Pictured below from my yard this week:  ( sorry, it’s up top )

If you see it at your garden center or someone wants to give you some, don’t be afraid.

This looks like the vine I purchased to fill in with geraniums in pots on my deck.  I never knew its name.  I can hardly wait to buy my flowers for my pots and hanging basket and watch them grow.  I have about a week left and may start shopping at the end of next week.  I live in the suburbs of Chicago and it's always warmer temps here.  Today it is close to 80.  Cat Very Happy

They are so pretty but thinking of pets and young children, the berries are poisonous and the leaves if chewed cause nausea.

They are deer resistant however.

The only part of the plant that is not toxic are the roots and shoots.Everything else is.

Those really perk up a heavily shaded area where very little will grow.

The way the flowers are arranged reminds me of 'bleeding heart'.

@Katcat1

The Seal plant stalk gets to approx. 10-12 inches high.  I couldn’t insert the picture that shows its height because of the file size.  There is no way that it can be considered a vine...too upright.

It does resemble a vinca vine though when it is very young!

@jlkz@on the bay@x Hedge and anyone I missed -

If someone is looking for a new groundcover for shade or sun, there is a relatively new one called kurapia.  Drought tolerant, too.

@jlkz  That is probably it.  I am not that savvy when it comes to names of different vines.  I know the common flower names only.   However, my flowers do look good if I have to say so myself.  lol
