I bought the Roberta's tomatoes this past spring, plus all sorts of supplies from Gardener's Supply. Was prepared for all those wonderful tomatoes. What a disappointment! They are fairly small, but the worst thing about them is the tough skin!

They taste alright if you can get by the skin!  What a waste of time and money! I don't know how the Q keeps supporting Roberta's. Next year I will go back to buying at Farms market and not buy these again! I don't understand how the Q can keep offering these when there are so many unhappy customers!

Re: Tomatoes from Roberts’s

I'm so happy with my Bonnie plants that I purchase  at Home Depot.

My tomatoes this year are wonderful, I even put in some Sweet 100's and they are delicious.

I always think mailing/sending away for items are so much better than the local stores, I have learned that's not alway true.

I'm so sorry, it's really a bummer.

With what's going on with shipping these days who knows what the plants go through between the day of shipping out and arriving at your doorstep.

I agree buying from a local nursery is a better choice for any type of plant. We have always bought our tomato and pepper plants from a locally owned farm supply store that only sells the varieties that do well in our area. Local nurseries are a good source as well, since they know what variety of plant will produce the best in a specific area.

Re: Tomatoes from Roberts’s

After two disappointing years of Bonnie Plants tomato plants I ordered Roberta's 6-piece Patio Beefsteak offering and am overwhelmed with tomatoes.

The plants were sent from Burpee's and arrived in prime condition.

I commented on this yesterday. I purchased A TSV last year of Roberta's patio beefsteak tomatoes for my sister for her birthday and she was very disappointed. She got them this year from Walmart and has a good crop at a much lower price.

I buy my plants locally -  from gardening sources recommended by other locals.   As far as plants from Home Depot or Lowes, I've had good results and I've had bad results.

Right now as I cope with redoing inside, I am growing weeds outside. Fortunately not obvious to my neighbors.

On a related note, it was good to see the Walliens today; usually we see them only in late-Winter and Spring.  Derek and Stefani were there; Devin and their uncle were not.

Heck, I've been very happy with plants purchased from my local grocery store. They have a great selection, particularly for veggies and herbs. And very affordable. It's one-stop shopping.
