I escaped their voracious lips last year for various reasons, but I was gone for two weeks and came home to my phlox disappearing overnight and now some of my daylilies and hosta flowers. I just sprayed stinky deer/rabbit repellent, but I know I'll have to do it every few days to really keep them away. My kids and grandkids are arriving in 10 days for their annual family vacay at our house. It usually happens in August, when many of the lilies and hostas have already bloomed. I was so excited that they could see my garden at its best. That's what I get for being proud of my flowers.

@PA Mom-mom Are you sure it's the deer. I know the rabbits have been feasting on my plants.

@PA Mom-mom We use deer off spray on the hostas, otherwise they eat the whole plant. Have to keep up with it after it rains. Gave up on flowers. We only put them on the deck.

It's very disappointing when that happens. I'm always on the defensive in my gardens too, so I know how you feel I would actually be afraid to leave home for more than a few days. If the weather forecast was dry, so the repellent wouldn't wash off, I would be more comfortable with a longer stay.

@KatieB My phlox are quite tall, and they don't look bent down, so I think it's the deer. We don't see many rabbits lately because we have a fox in the neighborhood. And some feral cats.

Last year we planted all new plants around our mailbox area. All were supposed to be deer repellent. They ate it all. Dug them all out this year and planted azaleas. They've done very well and haven't been eaten.

I have recommended this plant treatment spray earlier this month. It is available at plant nurseries...about $20. The sprayer needs to be rinsed out after use.
There is no smell....I used the stinky deer repellent at our mountain place but the deer enjoyed it !
