Hi guys.
My Gala apples are ripening up beautifully; you should see them! I sigh with happiness whenever I look at them.
Here's what I want to know: how can you tell when they're definitely ripe? If you pick them when they're not completely ripe, will they continue to ripen?
If, instead, you leave them on the tree and they get a touch of frost--not a heavy, killing frost but just a kiss at the very end of the season--will that help ripen them up completely and how, if at all, will it further affect them?
This is why I love gardening so much; you can learn so much and there's ALWAYS something more to learn. And it's so satisfying to see your fruit, vegetables, flowers, etc. at their full beauty at the end of the season.
I could go on and on but I won't ![]()

I think if you have a frost warning coming, harvest them and either put into a sealed paper bag to continue to ripen or leave on the counter to ripen.
