Ever think about buying a 5 gal plastic paint bucket and planting one tomato and/or one pepper plant? I don't want the commitment of a garden, but I could handle two plants.

@Kachina624 Actually, that's what I'm going do this spring/summer. I have a very large empty round flower pot. I am not a food growing person so I couldn't manage an actual vegetable garden as I am clueless (city girl with concrete back yard as a kid). I will plant one or two tomato plants in there and get that wire thing to hold it up as it grows. I am also going to try a herb garden in a planter. Both will be in my screen patio so creatures don't eat them. Like you, I can handle a few pots! I'm good with flowers though 😉
I'll flip if I get tomatoes or if my herbs make it...
Try it - either bucket or pot

@Kachina624 I have a mini garden every year. Everything grown in pots. I have a cherry tomato plant already doing well. Today I potted a small pepper, a small cucumber and another tomato. I always grow basil and rosemary in pots. Make sure they get plenty of sun, water, and fertilizer. It is fun and delicious. Also a good thing about growing in pots is when it gets too hot, you can move them to the shade or put an umbrella over them.

I already have 3 aero gardens that I restarted at the beginning of the year. I have grape tomatoes, romaine lettuce and butter lettuce that I have harvested and added to my salads. I recently started growing red strawberries and yellow strawberries, still in the early stage so no harvesting done yet but the plants are growing very well. 2 days ago I planted spinach seeds in a large flower pot and placed the pot next to my aerogardens hoping the seeds will benefit from the grow lights of the aerogardens. We shall see, first time trying this method.
I bought the blocks of garden soil sold by Carolyn Gracie here on QVC and using it to grow my Spinach plants( first time trying this) so we shall see if it works !

@Goodie2shoes. I remember you mentioning your Aerogarden. Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with it. Next thing you know, the Department of Agriculture will be paying you NOT to grow crops.

Only way I can grow any veggies since I don't get enough sun in the back yard. I don't grow tomatoes since I don't like them. I've grown okra, squash, & cucumbers though.
I've tried the lettuce in the Aerogarden and haven't been particularly happy with it. I may try again in winter when it's cooler in that room, mini butterheads and mini romaine. Spinach, I've read, cam be difficult to start and it also likes cooler temps.
I did grow some carrots in a grow bag over winter in the greenhouse. I couldn't say I'm saving any money, but I can grow varieties you won't get in the grocery store.

I grow tomatoes and peppers every year in pots. Cherry tomatoes are fun to grow since there always seem to be ones ready to pick compared to large tomatoes.

@Kachina624 great idea. Now I wish I could plant some salmon which I eat regularly.
