I bought a birdhouse 3 years ago from an old man who made them as a hobby and mounted it with my other ones on my fence. My little Sparrows use ALL the birdhouses except that one....

I painted it a medium green when I got it and I am wondering if the birds just don't like that color......LOL

Their favorites seem to be the off white and grey....

That’s cute. I mean would you live in a house painted green? 🐦🐦

Re: Painting a birdhouse.....

I've heard that birds don't like their houses painted. I think it depends on the bird, standards and all. I have two, both painted and the birds use them. I guess beggers can't be choosers. Smiley Happy

Re: Painting a birdhouse.....

I have a bird house that's stained a muted green, almost a grey.  Birds have nested there in the past, but not this year unfortunately.  Maybe it's just as well - the baby wrens can make a lot of noise when they're hungry.

I was told never to paint a birdhouse. They don’t like the smell.

Re: Painting a birdhouse.....

I've had several birdhouses that have all been painted and all have been used.

My current is a yellow & red that has a family living in it.

Re: Painting a birdhouse.....

I read that you should never paint the entrance hole.  I had a natural redwood house and it was used over and over until it fell apart.  Haven't had any luck since that one fell apart.
