My feeder is hanging on the deck. Hopefully they won’t come that close. If it were on one of the trees it would be down.

Raccoons. I had it happen all the time. I started taking them inside the screen room at night.

If everything was destroyed, I'd say a bear. Since that is not the case, I'd say a raccoon. We have had both bears and raccoons raid and destroy our bird feeders and suet cages. I believe you are dealing with a clever raccoon. We have found the solutiion is to bring feeders and suet cages in at night. We put them in the garage and take them back outside in the morning for the birds. It's a bother, but I'm not going to poison or kill critters or call the game commission. I have a soft spot for the critters. They were here before we were. Human beings are taking THEIR territory.
