I saw the first gold finch in their feeder today. These beautiful birds bring a smile to my face every time I see one. I also discovered a new baby in the neighborhood. A darling, tiny squirrel. Joy is abundant right now. <3

While out visiting this week, I drove by several fields with flocks of robins. In one shopping center, the parking lot was being searched for a suitable nesting place for a couple of Canada geese: can't wait to have to drive slowly around the line of baby geese !
Yes, Spring is here and the outside projects are calling.

I'm in the mid-Atlantic area and we have had goldfinches all winter long this past season (more than I can recall from years gone by). In the very early days of early spring weather, I would have as many as 14 gold finches at my feeders at one time. I was going through a lot of finch food!!!! It's been fun to watch the winter drab turn into the brilliant color the males now are sporting! Possibly my favorite birds!!!!!

I found the same situation @Krimpette of going through the niger seed more quickly than the year before. I also get house and common finches to that thistle feeder. When the red wing blackbirds arrive they eat at the peanut feeder, the thistle and the safflower seed feeder.
I also love their particular song they sing-- its very sweet sounding. I think they are my favorite songbird--the American goldfinch.

@JustJazzmom, I have had the more common finches in my feeder all winter, as well. I usually put the finch feeder away during the winter months, but when I noticed other species nibbling, I left it out. Bless their little beaks ~~

@pattypeep, I live the finches too. We have a few Pileated woodpeckers here as well. They must have a nest in our trees because they are pecking away every day. LM
