This Cholla Cactus is one common version of our wildflowers.  I know places where there are whole fields of it.  Pieces easily blow in and root in gravel yards.  It's invasive and difficult and expensive to eradicate  once established.  Surely is pretty though.

That's the Rio Grande in the background.

The colors are so brilliant and the mountains-glorious!

@Kachina624 It is nice to see the Rio Grande flowing. I heard there were flooding problems today along some of the burn scars. I just do not know the names or locations of many of the smaller villages. The report sounded dire.

Re: New Mexican Wildflowers

@On It    The river at Albuquerque last week.  Did you get flooding in Ruidoso at your house?

There are hundreds of Spanish villages in Northern NM.  Many of those people are descendants of the Conquistadors.  They are not Mexican and families go back 13 or 14 generations.  I love to try to pronounce the names of those villages. My mom, who knew a lot about them, said they are very cliquish.  They even have their own version of Catholicism.

I sure wouldn't want to tangle with that cactus. Beautiful flowers though, and landscape.
