It is celebrated the first Saturday in September.  Happy day!

I love hummingbirds. I still have a few that are showing up, everyday still, (I'm in CT) to my feeder and flowers.

They're so cute...love having them visit all summer. Always sad when they go.

I occassionally see one at my neighbor's feeder, but not often. I just needed to order new checks and I ordered hummingbirds. They are so beautiful.

I still have a couple visiting the feeders and butterfly bush flowers. Hate to see them leave.

Re: National Hummingbird Day - Sept. 6

My feeders are still being drained almost every other day (Central NY). I have generational hummingbirds that come every year and one tells me when they're here, and when they leave by hovering outside any window I'm near, or over me if I'm outside. I always tell her, "Have a safe trip, see you next year!"
I plant heirloom flowers too for them and they are so fun to watch! They help my garden tremendously. Then *poof*, they all leave until next year.

@Quse  What a great story about the hummers saying "hi" and "bye!" My hummers are extremely skittish, because we have several feral  cats around. I doubt they would hang around long enough to get to know us.

This particular female is very sweet. She has a certain look about her. When she hovers, she looks like she's smiling, which is really funny. When she comes, she hovers, smiling, and I say, "Oh, you're back? I'll boil up some food and get it out for you". (FYI-1 cup organic cane sugar to 4 cups filtered water, boiled, cooled)
We have a male that comes back every year too who is very vocal. I call him "Chip" because he chip-chirps and squeaks every time he comes to the feeder. Bright red neck/chest.
They are so fun.
They never used to bother the regular birds, but, this year, the babies (young ones), go over to the regular feeders, trying to figure them out, and freak out the Chickadees, who, are usually not freaked out about much. "Hey! Where did these flying swords come from??!!"
This year has been particularly amusing.....lol
