his particular female is very sweet. She has a certain look about her. When she hovers, she looks like she's smiling, which is really funny. When she comes, she hovers, smiling, and I say, "Oh, you're back?

If the bird is walking head first down the tree, it’s probably a nuthatch. We have lots of them.

Yes, we have several white breasted nuthatches which are great fun. The one running down the tree was a red bellied woodpecker.
