Anyone live in florida?? I love roses , especially the fragrant ones. I had some in the ground that just quit after a couple of years. Now I have mini rose in a large pot. It was blooming like crazy but now it's getting alot spotty yellow leaves. It's been awful hot and humid here. I have it against the house facing east so it gets morning sun. Anywhere else would be just too hot...we have heat index well over 100. I'm watering pruning dead flowers and fertilizing regularly. I'd love to try some of the gorgeous roses posted here but I desperately need alot of advice. Appreciate any knowledge!!
@Dazlin The majority of the roses in this thread are mine.
A rose, it is said, needs six hours of sun a day. Roses need a lot of water, mornings are preferrable, and are heavy feeders. For rose diseases, please google where you will find all information you need, and more thorough than I can give.

Thanks...I think florida weather and lousy soil add to problems...that's why I asked if anyone has roses in florida. What about potting them..would that work?
@Dazlin Roses can be potted, but anything in a pot usually needs watering more often, and the pot should be big enough to accomodate the eventual size of the rose/plant, or will eventually have to be repotted. I have clay soil so just have to really amend it so the roots can spread.

And by amending, it means adding compost or leaf litter to the soil to make it less water retentive -- clay is like mud on steroids.

Thank you!!. I'm going to try potting. I have a mini in a pot that was doing well, but just got a fungus this past week. I'll treat it and see what happens. I hope to find those large beautiful lavendar roses. I've some nice BIG pots that I'll use. I'll only try one plant and see how it goes. My soil here her is too hard and sandy, and lots of roots, that's why I feel I can control soil better in a pot. Enjoy your roses...I bet their fragrance is just awsome!!
