@JustJazzmom I think the tag said Shooting Stars, Sumida-no-hanabi'
not Wedding Gown. I bought it at the grocery store.

‘Shooting Star’ is also called ‘Fuji Waterfall’ too.
I used to have one also bought from a supermarket. I put it into the ground. It survived the winter but ended up dying in the spring.
I replaced it with ‘Wedding Gown’.

@JustJazzmom Two separate plants, though similar.
" Since the name was first published as H. ‘Sumida-no-hanabi’ this is its actual name. Although the flowers are similar to H. ‘Fuji Waterfall’ (which is actually H. 'Fuji-no-taki') is really a cultivar of the H. serrata species. So beware when buying, you may be purchasing the wrong plant. If it has large glossy leaves, and grows to about five feet tall you most likely have H. macrophylla ‘Sumida-no-hanabi’"

to the op: your hydrangeas are beautiful.
I had a hydrengea hedge for years but I finally got rid of it this year. The plants were getting out of control, they were hard to keep in shape, the roots were starting to get invasive, and the flowers just didn't look pretty to me any ore. To get them back in shape just wasn't worth the effort.
I have a long, bare strip where the bushes were and haven't decided to replace them with. Probably another infusion of wild flowers

Do you have to add anything to your soil to get the blue coloring?
The rocky, clay-y volcanic soil in the nw is just perfect to hydrangeas and mine use to change colors at the drop of a hat. I never added anything to the soil; they just did it on their own.
