I noticed a bunch of twigs and grass sticking out from a birdhouse I have right outside my bedroom window. I recently cleaned it because they always start nesting here in February. I also clean it after the babies all fledge, then soon enough theyre nesting again. Ive been getting at least 4 broods through the summer...in that box. I have another one in the driveway, ill keep an eye on that one too. Now I'm seeing one or two either sitting on top or going in. So ill be keeping an eye 😊

@Dazlin Where are you located? We have bluebirds in SE PA, but I had not thought of them nesting already. Maybe I have to re-think.

I'm in SE PA and I've seen blue bird couples checking out my two blue bird boxes in the past few days. I always say they are thinking of 'renting' and checking out the houses, lol.

@snipsnapsnur I hope they like the neighborhood! At our house, the bachelors have been outnumbering the bachelorettes. Hahaha! No one shopping for a house as of yet.

If you want to hear something REALLY peculiar...
I worked in a resort. One morning a guest called the office and wanted me to have a tree CUT DOWN in front of his suite....because the birds were KEEPING HIM AWAKE.

I have a pair visiting the mealworm feeder. They and the wrens are cleaning it out pretty quickly although I don't fill it all the way, The two boxes I have, which are not bluebird-specific, are in areas that are a bit difficult to see. I can sometimes see them going in and out of the one on the fence although I didn't see any last year.
When I put the boxes up, I didn't have any bluebirds and was trying to encourage the wrens to nest somewhere else besides continually trying to build inside the garage. DH will never remember to leave the door open a crack, so I don't want them in there at all. It's a real pain in the spring since all my tools are in there and I often go in and out all the time. I need a shed.

I understand the frustration of other birds stealing the mealworms. I basically put them out for the bluebirds, but im swamped with the little yellow pine warblers and they literally devour the mealworms in minutes. I do see the bluebirds trying to snatch up a few worms too, but it's competition. The yellow birds stay for a few months then they move on somewhere...so I just have to put up with it.
The early bird gets the worm...🤷♀️
