I'm im FL so we share the same hot sun. Plumeria (frangipani) would look nice in your two large urns. Their blooms come in various colors and are used to make leis in Hawaii. I grow Cote d'Or Plumeria Rubra (Lowes). They are lightly fragrant and grow both tall and wide. Also good for any pot would be Arabian Jasmine or Artic Snow Bush, both at Lowes. White blooms and very fragrant. 6 hours direct sun for both. Good one for under your window in smaller pots would be mini gardenias (white blooms, very fragrant), Lowes, Walmart. Butterflies are drawn to red and purple colors, so if you can do without the fragrance thing, check out Vincas (annual) and purlane (very low-growing). You might like to try Desert Rose -- gorgeous and absolutely love full sun. I grow both red and purple, both from Walmart. There is a small tree that we can grow here in FL, but don't know if you can in NM. It's the Jatropha tree. Continuous red blooms and butterflies are all over it. Buy at a nursery. I also love Duranta which can be pruned as a small shrub or a short tree. Continuous deep purple blooms, and butterflies fight over the blossoms. At Lowes and Home Depot. All of these plants are seasonal, so you may need to wait till spring to search them out. I begin my buying in February at our big box stores. Good luck!!

@Wahoogaz My autumn joy sedum is blooming like crazy right now. Imagine in southern NM it would grow non-stop for much of the year. And the bees and butterflies love it! If it has any fragrance, I've never noticed.
ETA: Another plus of the sedums is they require little watering, but love the sunlight and heat. You might be able to plant them in the rocky soil in NM. IDK for sure, but it would be worth a try! Or a smaller bag of potting soil would certainly help sustain a starter plant.

Those plants are attractive, but most are all tropical/sub-tropical - definitely not for southern NM arid conditions. I love the smell of gardenia, but the pink jasmine I had in that area couldn't handle the sun / low humidity - no matter how much I watered - and I think gardenias and jasmine are pretty similar in what they need to thrive. I saw some interesting plants on the Annie's Annuals site last night, but I'll have to do some more investigating before ordering.

I love sedum and have several in pots around the yard ... none in the ground ... yet. They do extremely well in the conditions here. I had one many years ago in MD that had bright pink blooms. I need to do some searching and figure out which one that was. I would like to get it again.

Angelonia might be a good choice for you. They're tough, like full sun, are drought tolerant, and flower heavily.
