Two years ago I planted a trumpet vine and it did very well until this winter; we've have a really rugged one and spring has been nothing but wet and cold. I checked on the vines and couldn't find any live wood at all so I cut it back to about 12" long.
I've been trying to decided whether or not to pull it up but I hate to give up and I especially want to give it one more chance since I've never gotten flowers from it. Lots of foliage, but no flowers. This one is supposed to have orange flowers, which I love, so I was really disappointed that it seemed to be dead.
HOWEVER ...I checked on it one more time today and I found itty bitty nubs starting to shoot out of the stem! I was so excited that I gave out a yelp, then ran to the bucket of alfalfa meal and scratched in a couple of handfuls to help it along. I don't know if I'll get any flowers this year but I'm so happy that it survived this terrible weather.
Anyone want to join me in a happy dance?
