As recommended, since you already tried previously, I would consult with your local nursery to get the best results. It may not be so much be the time of year, but the location and how you may be planting the tree.
It seems many posters are confusing the p...y willow with the weeping willow. The genus Salix is made up of around 400 species of deciduous trees and shrubs.

We have willows along the lake shore behind the house and love their beauty and shade. I would think that planting in a wet doing would be best. They need water, which is why they do well along the water's edge.
@libbyannE The asterisks represent a word that could be construed as salacious and depending upon the software installed will be blocked out. Unfortunately these programs are looking at the word only and not the context in which it is being used. The poster is referring to a "p u s s y" willow tree.

Sorry, I didn't know you meant ****** willow. I thought you were asking about a weeping willow, the kind we commonly see along ponds and streams.

Me, too. I thought the asterisks were a typo. I doubt they were necessary. Does every man named ****** now have to write his name as ****? Haha. Ridiculous.

I guess the Q's software prevented the Diagnosis Murder star's name to be partially blocked!

Oh. Its nice to know weeping is not a swear word. I didn't know the other kind came in tree form, just thought they were bushes.

LOL -- same here! Since we always display the "other kind" upright in a vase, I'd always thought that's the way it grew - upright like a bush,.

I am not responsible for the asterisks replacing "kitty cat" willow. That was done without my input. That is the type I want.
Still searchng. In my experience, although kitty cat willows can be somewhat messy in some seasons, they are not as messy as weeping willows.

We have those in a nearby park and they are not trees. They look like bushes to me.
