Hydrangeas

My in laws gave me a beautiful plant, but I'm really struggling to find the right spot for it. I don't really have a totally sunny area open for planting. For those who have hydrangeas, do yours get a lot of sun? Just wondering how it would do in a mostly shaded area? Die?
