Re: Humming bird feeders and bees

I recently got this tip from a friend about bee problem...IT WORKS!!!   Spread a "little" olive oil "around" the opening....in my case ....petals around each opening so I dabbed olive oil just around that flower.  The bees do not like it...sticky...it does not bother hummingbirds because they just perch and sip or hover and sip into opening.

TRY IT!  No more bees here!

@walker I would be careful about that.  Maybe at least avoid the bottom part of the flower.  My flowers get dirty there which means the hummer's feathers must be brushing it as it sits and leans forward to sip.

Re: Humming bird feeders and bees

Update on my feeder and olive oil usage to prevent bee problem......hummingbirds come around regularly and seem to have no problem (I take a-tip and just dab just a little olive oil around petal).....no bees!  To test, one time I left olive oil off and sure enough the bees came back.  Olive oil 👍 works for me and hummingbirds.....but, soon they will head south anyway.
