My impatiens plants did fine from a health standpoint, but unfortunately the potting mix I bought this year has failed miserably. Our local True Value Hardware store had a great sale on Miracle Gro potting mix in the spring and I bought six bags of it (2 cu ft bags for $6 each.) I was surprised when I opened the bags to find they appeared to be nearly all peat (or a peat like substance.) Suffice to say the soil has not held up well and everything planted in it has just staggered along from around the first week of July on. I had a bag of another brand of potting mix I'd bought at Walmart before the True Value sale and the plants potted in that, in the exact same conditions are thriving. Ah well, it's a lesson learned. Avoid the sales that look too good to be true.
