Hisbiscus IS toxic to cats!!! Carolyn said it is "perfectly fine" for cats to nibble

During the 9:00 show with Phillip, Carolyn made the announcement that hibiscus is "perfectly fine" and safe for your pets to "nibble". According to the websites I'm consulting, it is absolutely NOT fine. Hisbiscus is toxic to cats per the ASPCA and others.

QVC PLEASE correct this. Take the video down before animals gets hurt.

Drop Carolyn a note and let her know. She'll make the correction on the air.

You also might want to add this thread to Viewpoints. Lots of feline lovers over there.

I have hibiscus, no cat, and no intention to fence off my flowers. I may be a bad neighbor for cat owners, but I'm also not a worried neighbor. Those hibiscus have been in place for about a decade and the cats that roam the beds occasionally seem to be okay.

My main concern is if someone brings the blooms into the house and indoor pets nibble on them out of the novelty. Not good.....

I've had both hibiscus and cats forever and both are fine. I've never had a cat even nibble on a hibiscus. There are those who will tell you there's no safe plant for cats but by and large cats don't eat every plant and there are very seldom any problems.

I have 6 large bushes in my front yard with lots of cats roaming through and they don't bother them. Last summer a squirrel kept eating the flowers off of mine. He loved them and came back every day to eat. Drove me nuts.

It should also be pointed out that people drink hibiscus tea and I've never heard of anyone dying from it. There are some sources that seemingly want every pet owner to believe that their pets are living in a very dangerous minefield surrounded by things that will kill them if the owners aren't hyper-vigilant. In the vast majority of cases the threats are greatly exaggerated.

Well if you think along those lines people eat chocolate every day too without dying but you should never give chocolate to cats and dogs.
