Good companion plants for Dwarf Weigela?

Last year I planted 6 dwarf weigela, 3 called "midnight wine shine" and 3 called "very fine wine". I haven't had experience with these before, so I have been reading and was thinking maybe coreopsis, or maybe salvia.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Good companion plants for Dwarf Weigela?

I have the Spilled Wine Weigela in a little "island" in front of my house.  I have planted Pink Profusion Salvia along with it and it looks great. When the Weigela is done blooming (it blooms in the spring), I have the salvia there blooming through fall.  My Weigela has gorgeous dark purple foliage when the flowers are gone, so the pink salvia makes it pop.

You could also plant nepeta or perennial geraniums.  The geraniums are a great choice because they are low growing and they spread.  My favorite geraniums are Geranium Rozanne.  I'm in Zone 7b, so they bloom from May-October (sometimes November!) for me.
