I have seen on toktok an augar that goes on a drill to dig holes to plant veggies and flowers and it even mixing up garden soil. I ordered a 4 different size augars  set plus a new rake and a new hose plus pasta making stuff and a pasta making cookbook. We were in the 50s yestauday. It so felt like spring. Dying to get outside to start yard work.

I bought one like that many years ago from QVC. They would aways demonstrate it in a soft bed of dirt, but that didn't work on my soil in PA.  which is as hard as a rock. Good luck.

I grew up with Midwestern HUMUS.    It even smells good!

Now I'm stuck with Western CLAY and ROCKS....

@catter70 North AL clay with rocks and roots everywhere.  That thing would be a joke here, probably pull my arm out of socket or something. My favorite digging tool is the spade-headed shovel.

@Desertdi.  We don't have clay in NM.  It's sand mixed with dust and it gets just like cement.  I tried to push a big nail into the ground once and had to use a hammer.

I don't understand how your haboods manage to blow clay.

Many years ago I bought one of those tools from QVC to plant my bulbs and various other things. It works wonders! I adore it and used it often the first several years. Haven't used in in recent years after getting my gardens just the way I wanted them, but I keep the tool in the event I want to add or change something as the years pass. Can't imagine having anything easier and quicker to do the job. I've loaned it to several friends who also loved it.

@Kachina624

The top layer of the clay erodes from the heat and wind.

I was in the Walmart parking lot this morning...and the wind was swirling almost like a mini dust devil, and you could feel it sting your face.   di

@Desertdi.  It's windy here too today.  It's fun to get a snootfull of wind in your face and your mouth feel gritty, as does your face.

Wow..sounds like alot of you have really crappy soil.  We have one small area that's rocky and hard but rest of the soil is really good. Good luck gardening everyone.
