Hi everyone.  I haven’tbeen posting much lately.  Very busy summer on the go.  In the middle of the the garden project, we got new cable so we had set up issues with all the devices which falls into my lap.  On top of that, I got a new phone so we had that as well.

Our community project is a real time consumer without much to show so far with people entering the game after all the planning is done and trying to redo everything🙄.  Damage control all over the place there but we persevere😃.

Very hot and dry six weeks.  No rain and people are experiencing water shortages in their wells.

Despite the dry, our gardens carry on at a smaller size than normal.  I went out to weed and even the weeds are growing lol.

Enjoy a few pics below on the way to the lake and our project at lakeside.  We wanted to increase walkability with stone stairs, widened paths, etc.  A few more things to do but the bones are there for the finishing touches.

Happy summer to my gardening friends.  We will be freezing before you know it.  LM

So beautiful!  Looks like something in a magazine.

I envy your lovely flowers and groomed landscape.  We live back in the woods, and have too many deer to ever have anything like you've got.

Not to mention, I could never grow anything in our clay soil.

It must be a joy enjoying that beautiful path and view.

Where do you find the energy to do so much?

Re: Garden pics and projects

@Witchy Woman , I have a gardening friend who is 12 years older than me and she has gorgeous gardens.  I tell her she is my inspiration.  I am 64, she is 76.  She doesn’t have as much as me but she still has a lot.

When she says when are are you going to slow down I say I am saving that for my senior years and then I say...oh wait, these ARE my senior years.  Ha!

If I have a secret, it is to pace myself.  I love being outside in the warmer weather.  You almost never find me in the house.  If you love what you do, it is ‘t Like work.  LM

Yes, I think if you love gardening, it's never work.

When I first moved to my current home (we built it), I had high hopes of having a garden.

The soil is clay with lots of stones.  I tried supplementing it, but that is a slow process.  I tried raised beds, but they were slug-filled, and would not thrive.  Anything else, the deer destroyed.

I just gave up.  Even my "deer resistant" holly trees are being attacked by the voles and deer.  I had roses, but they were destroyed by Japanese Beetles and leaf mold.

But, I admire those with patience to make their world more beautiful.  It's amazing your friend is still up for the challenge.  I have a wonderful friend in Texas in her 90s and, she was an avid gardener until just a few years ago when she fell.

Re: Garden pics and projects

@Witchy Woman , the fact that I have a willing partner in DH makes it possible.  Without him, the garden would be much less impressive. Only one of the reasons why I think he's the best.

We have heavy clay soil as well.  We amend as we plant, again, all DH's muscle for those good holes filled with good soil and compost.  I live close to Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia so I no need to talk about granite.  We live in it lol.  I dig it up or go around it depending on size.

The deer are another subject.  Our Lab keeps them at bay but she is 12.  Dreading that day.  She is my garden spirit.

Thanks for stopping by.  All of your comments are much appreciated.

@AuntG @blackhole99 @ILTH Heart.  The lakeside garden is the most fun and where we work the least.  Probably why I love it.  LM
