Garden May 14/23

[ Edited ]

It is slowly warming up here.  Many of our gardeners are waiting anxiously to see how the deep polar vortex in February affected their blooms.  Many did tests on Rhodo buds only to discover everything above the snow line dead.  We had very little snow.  We only cleared the driveway twice last winter, unheard of in this part of eastern Canada.

@Kachina624 you asked in another post if we had leaves yet...they are just starting to leaf out as you will see in the photos.

The hummingbirds have arrived.  Feeders in the front and back are busy.  One of them hovered as DH set up the front yard feeder.

Your garden is waking up and it's delightful to see peeks of color and leaves here and there.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing your lovely gardens! They truly are inspiring. I love the statuary, such an eclectic mix.

I lost many of my lavenders over the winter, seemed odd for such a mild winter but it's happening to many around here with different types of shrubs and perrenials. And many of my trees are slow in awakening, my weeping cherry and my fringe tree are weeks behind schedule.

@We rescue cats , I have had a few losses after the polar vortex.  Did you have a good snow cover?  Snow acts as an insulator.  We had little snow last winter, hence the roots were exposed to the freeze thaw cycle which can be very hard on perennials ANS shrubs.
