Just wondered if anyone who has a garden keeps a compost bin in their kitchen? Now that garden season is right around the corner (live in West Michigan), we're got a bin in our kitchen for egg shells, coffee grounds, fruit & veggie peels. DH bought a plastic compost drum that we keep out by our garden, but it's hard to rotate when it gets full, plus with just the 2 of us, we don't produce enough waste to be very productive for our garden. When I was little, my Dad had a compost "pile" that was a section out by our field--he started with raked up leaves, then we threw our waste (see above) after every dinner out on the pile. He would turn over the compost once a week with a shovel, and had great free compost to go on our garden. He also turned it over to get night crawlers for fishing. I think we've forgotten how to do a lot of money-saving things that our parents did. Need to bring them back.
