Are you able to post a closer photo of the leaves and flowers?

Agree with Skuggles.  Rose of Sharon or Althea.  Pretty one

@Lilysmom

The photo is sideways but looking at the leaves, it looks like a Hibiscus syriacus or Rose of Sharon. As someone said looks to be double rather than single flower.

How many live seedlings does it shed? My Grandmother once told me that the double flowering ones do not shed live seedlings. Is this true for that plant?

Also this plant tolerates both shade and sun and by some horticulturalists-- consider it a weedy plant because of the seedlings always being thrown out.

It might flower more profusely in full sun for you.

Re: Can you identify this shrub?

Oh that dreadful sideways thingy!  They always look upright to me.  My apologies everyone and thank you for your replies.

This is a shrub at my friend's new house so it is not in my garden.  I was thinking Rose Of Sharon as well but I don't have one in my garden so am not too familiar with them.  I haven't seen this one in person yet but it does look nice. I'm think they get pretty tall as well.

Off to check the link.  Thanks again for your help.  I will pass along the info.  I am going to see this garden this week.  LM

I agree, it's Rose of Sharon.  I have a few of these.

Re: Can you identify this shrub?

I have one that's about 8ft high and doesn't not shed seedlings.

That reminds me, I have a tri colored butterfly bush and discovered a volunteer from it about 12ft away on the other side of the patio in my daylily bed.  It does apparently make seedlings.
