A couple weeks ago DH and I were at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. It's a beautiful park. While we were there there is a concrete retaining wall in front of the Lodge. Up atop that wall in dry sandy soil was a spectacular flowering plant. I only have this one photo of it and have no clue  as to it's identity. While there we purchased a book of Arkansas state flowers. Even with that, I still haven't found it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can't tell you the name but I've heard there's an app that identifies plants (check google).

Just to close this out- I emailed the park but did not get  an answer.

They have so many flowers there. I may never know the name, but at least I have the picture.

@1920712  I googled purple flowering plants and found campanula ground cover site. 

There are matches to your picture there.
