Anyone have a good suggestion for a bird-feeder they have and love? Looking for something that doesn't spill the seed everywhere.  Squirrels, mice aren't my issue, as my deck is on a second floor condo.

I have a really nice one I bought at a garden store years ago, was expensive, carved birds of antiqued brass over one tube and only the perch where the seed goes to the bottom. I don't know how but within hours of filling it the seed is all over the deck, and the tube is already empty.

I never mind this during winter/early spring, before I put out furniture and sit out there, after which I've always taken it down during summer.

I finally ready to give up this pretty feeder to get a practical one that has the little holes up the side, doesn't spill all over.

I looked in one local discount store...nothing good that day. Without going shopping everywhere thought I'd ask if anyone had

one they like, and where you got it. Online would be a plus, but anywhere. I have a Walmart closeby I haven't checked...we also have a "bird store" not far, I keep meaning to go there!

Tks in advance.

Re: Bird-feeder Suggestions?

The birds pick out the seeds they want and throw out ones they dislike. If you don’t want a mess, I suggest a “no mess bird seed blend”. No shells. It’s pricey though.

I don't recommend a bird feeder if you're in a second-floor condo.  Inevitably, regardless of feeder or seed mix, seed will spill onto your first floor neighbors and attract mice, chipmunks, and squirrrels.  Trust me, I've been there.  It's a matter of being considerate.

I have many bird feeders, trays, etc.  We feed the birds all year.  The one feeder that I have where the seed goes to the bottom is the worst and a mess.  I have it in the back of my yard and it empties too quickly.

The feeders that I have that are more like tubes with little perches from top to the bottom,  I have found to keep the seed the longest and be a little less messy.  My birds are always hungry so our feeders, no matter the kind, empty pretty fast!!!!

Good luck with your search.

Edited to add...   Do you have a hummingbird feeder?

Understood. Definitely I'm very cognizant of things below. My neighbor and I have both been here for years, and luckily no problem with the birdfeeder. We communicate on anything that might affect her below, nothing falls to her patio, and no animal problems either, thankfully. Might be how our decks are built...other than sometimes some plant water, which I'm also careful about, birdseed doesn't get through the very tight composite board decking.

I may just avoid it all by continuing to take it down during summer.

Re: Bird-feeder Suggestions?

@amyb Love this feeder and have bought at least 5 over time.  Right now 4 finches on all 4 ports.

Cute feeders not always the best.

Go to DUNCRAFT WEBSTE - CLICK SQUIRREL PROOF FEEDERS  Then....

Down (forgot to count) about)   4 or 5 rows and to the right you'll see

 Hanging Classic  Feeder $70.99

All the info is there - easy top lid to fill...........

Note:  it comes with a roof-baffle clear plastic that YOU have to install.  It's a *(%$$ thing to do - takes lots of muscle - - so just forget about that.  Birds are used to a little rain on them..

Comes from New England ( Mass perhaps) and is a family USA company.

Duncraft - this feeder is THEIR PRODUCT - found nowhere else; but they do have other feeders that are available in stores.  This feeder is their design

Birds love this feeder as much as I do.    Large birds have a dfficult time eating out of it....and squirrels can't get seeds.

Good Luck..............

@feline groovy  were you wanting my suggestions, or were you going to ask me a question?  I like the tube feeders from Wild Birds Unlimited.  There's not a lot that will keep the seed mess from under the feeders though.  I think it's just inevitable when you feed birds.  Aspects makes good tube feeders, too.  You can buy those from Duncraft.

You can buy a seed tray to attach to the bottom of the feeder to catch some of the seed.  That might help.

Thank you @feline groovy .  I do love the birds.

Henry and Ava will definitely want cuddles tonight.  We're getting ready to have a bad storm and are under a tornado watch.
