this is my first year trying it.

i mowed my leaves, put in black trash bags, wetted them and added a shovel or 2 or compost dirt.

they say it could take 6-12 months but i am hoping for 6 so i can use for mulch this Spring.

lmk how you make out with yours!!

The piles of leaves serve as Winter shelter for butterfly larvae, frogs, salamanders and Native insects.

The best thing you can for Nature this Fall? Nothing

Re: Anybody making Leaf Mold???

Our neighbor next door has a fit about our two big maple trees that border her property.  They put an addition on their house and now the house is about 15 ft from the trees.

The leaves come down on their lawn and they mow ALL of their leaves back onto our yard........whether they are from their trees or ours. They are true "lawn nazis" and want an impeccably manucured lawn.

Of course, I'm dying to mention to them that all the birds they feed poop on our cars and deck..........kind of surprised the birds haven't croaked as they never clean the feeders.

Just curious, @hkrgrl , are you going to add any compostible food scraps to your bag?

@hkrgrl  Judging by your post, you do not believe in your own tag line?

Just curious......

@Mz iMac

of course i do!

i have quite a few trees, so that many leaves on the lawn itself is just too much.

all my beds have shredded and raked leaves in them for the Winter sleep.

the lawn has been mulched with leaves twice.

we have a native nursery in our area and the first they ask me is "do u have a leaf mold pile"?

it is very healthy for your beds, trees etc.. anything you want to feed &/or mulch.

@cindyNC  i did put composted dirt from food, leaves and grass in the bags.  not actual food scraps.
