Re: Any Hummingbird sightings?

I'm getting impatient - they're usually here by now.  I've always said I like living where we have 4 seasons, but we had all 4 seasons in the last week!  We had a frost last night and the night before, after temps in the upper 80's last weekend.  I had to double-check my calendar to confirm it's really the end of April.   Anyway, I clean and re-fill my feeders every 3-4 days and keep hoping..... and hoping....

I'm jealous of you who already have hummers.

I think they are here, in the Piedmont of VA.  I think they are tending the nest right now and are flitting and hovering, securing food sources.  I see flashes of activity.

Re: Any Hummingbird sightings?

I put two HB feeders out on Friday.  I wonder how long it will be til I see one.  According to the migration map they are back in PA.

Re: Any Hummingbird sightings?

I'm from Northern WV, close to Pittsburgh, always put my feeders out May 6th, come in the house and look out the window and I have a hummingbird. I make my own feed, 1 cup sugar to 4 cups of water, cook till sugar melts. I don't put coloring in them anymore, you don't need to. I've always heard they come back to the same place every year. Then I take the feeders down Sept 7, so they don't hang around, and go south. Been doing the above for 60 plus years.

No hummingbird sightings yet.  Perhaps the recent weather has kept them further south.  Anxious to see them.
